About Doipaso
Doipaso is the independent ICT consulting, engineering, and training practice of Jan Hilberath, based in Saku, Japan.
I combine more than 25 years of professional ICT experience with three closely connected areas of work: consulting to understand and solve problems, engineering to build and improve systems, and training to develop practical skills.
My background spans Linux, networking, cloud infrastructure, automation, and open-source technologies. Since moving from Germany to Japan in 2008, I have worked extensively with customers across the Asia-Pacific region in engineering, customer success, technical leadership, and consulting roles. Before establishing Doipaso, I worked with companies including Midokura (Sony Group), Open-Xchange, and SUSE.
Much of my career has been spent working directly with customers: understanding technical and business requirements, solving complex problems, designing and operating infrastructure, delivering workshops, and helping engineering teams develop the knowledge needed to work confidently and independently.
I favor open-source technologies and open standards where they provide the best fit, particularly when they improve transparency, interoperability, flexibility, and long-term maintainability.
I work with clients in Japan and internationally in English, Japanese, and German.

How I Work
Understand the real problem
Start with the objective, constraints, and existing environment—not a predetermined technology. Solutions should fit the real problem and the people who will use and maintain them.
Make complex things clear
Explain options, trade-offs, and decisions in understandable terms. Knowing why something is done is as important as knowing how to do it.
Build practical solutions
Favor reliable, maintainable solutions that fit the actual environment rather than following technology trends for their own sake.
Learn by doing
Turn collaboration and training into practical knowledge that can be applied directly to real systems and real problems.
Become more capable
Leave clients better equipped to understand their systems, make informed decisions, and solve future problems independently.
Client Feedback
Jan was an absolute pleasure to work with. He stayed on schedule, communicated well and offered great insight - we got a great product that we’re already using with our customers.
The fact that he was very open and honest with his proposal response is what made him stand out, and that level of professionalism carried throughout the project.
We were lucky to work with Jan, and I’ll be hiring Jan again without a doubt.
